MICHAEL (Multilingual Inventory of Cultural Heritage in Europe) is an Internet portal offering access to digital collections of museums, libraries, archives and other cultural institutions across Europe. In 2004 the project MICHAEL was launched in the three European countries: France, Italy and Great Britain. Two years later (in June 2006) the project under the title MICHAEL Plus spread into another eleven countries, including the Czech Republic. Both the projects were financed through the eTen programme by the European Commission. Each of the countries involved in the project provided access to its digital collection database by the means of a national portal. The data from national portals are automaticaly transferred into the European portal MICHAEL. The platform of the project MICHAEL is based on Java technology and Open Source software.

The Czech portal Michael Plus was prepared and launched on the Czech Ministry of Culture server in May 2008 by Devoteam, s.r.o. Our methodological centre was entrusted with permanent maintenance of the portal, which was subsequently transferred to the MZM server. Over 60 institutions have already contributed to the database, mainly museums, libraries and archives.

If you want to present information about your digital collections, interesting products or services on the sites of the Czech national portal please contact us.
